Drag Queens Over Heroes *Update

Last night Portland Mayor Sam Adams had quite a quandary: He was committed to going to three events and couldn't figure out how he was going to get them all by bus. Adams has been on his self imposed "vacation" from driving his GMC Truck after he slammed into one car and kept on going near the Car Toys at Jantzen Beach.
His only "Tweet" from last night was going to the global warming meeting:

"On #17 bus to our Climate Change townhall... I hope all are ok in wake passing t-storm.

But what he didn't "Tweet" was his dumping out of the Admiral's dinner so he could make the bus in time to go to the Red Cap Garage's homage to RuPaul's "Drag Race." Seriously.

5:30 PM - 7:30 PM -
ATTEND: Climate Action

Plan Town Hall

7:00 PM - 8:00 PM -
ATTEND: Rose Festival
Foundation Admirals

Dinner
(didn't go so he could make it in time for: see next item)

8:45 PM - 10:45 PM -
ATTEND: Ru Paul's Drag
Race - Portland Edition

The obvious solution for his dilemma was to accept a carpool ride to the Admiral's dinner so he could make all 3 events. He could have crawled from Hotel 50 to the Red Cap.
If my talking about it on the show last night caused a sudden reversal of his decision to dump the Admirals then good.

*Sam is free to drive again. Story here. Pull quote:
...Catherine Ciarlo, the mayor's transportation policy adviser, said the monthlong shift to transit and biking required scheduling extra travel time. "We had to make a few other adjustments," she said. "But they weren't huge."
Glad she thinks so. For the rest and as a side note, most of us don't get paid by the city to spend the extra time it takes to get to places on transit.

  1. I have to think it wasn't a very hard decision for Sammy.

  2. Maybe this view (related to being paid with tax dollars while taking extra time to get somewhere, due to using mass transit) explains why so many state jobs (that should have nothing to do with driving a vehicle) require the applicant to have a driver's license in good standing.
They don't want to pay anyone, on state time, to get anywhere by mass transit, on those rare occasions where the job might require we some work at other then the office.

Sam isn't paid by the hour, is he?
I am sure his use of mass transit does not cause him to get any less work done.

  3. The Ru Paul Drag Race sounds a heck of alot better than a boring old Admiral Dinner for a bunch of stuffies.

Actually, a competitor Talk Radio station personality once equated the Admiral Dinner akin to the GOP's "Dork Chester" where a bunch of "has-been nobodies" sit around acting like they are important. Have you heard that?
