Congradulations to all those that called asking their representative to vote "yes". Representative Bonehead wasted his breath and time attempting a fillibuster, comical as it was.
I had a little wait getting through on the swtichboard, but finally did. My representative, I am pleased to say voted "yes". The secretary taking my call said that "it passed like ABC, easy as 1,2,3". The calls in favor were beating those opposed 3 to 1.
Victoria, I called all of the Oregon reps for the first time in my life. I'm a "regular mom" who has NEVER been politically active but I just can't sit idly by anymore. Everything that is happening in Washington (and Salem for that matter) is just wrong. The fact that they keep sneaking in things in the middle of the night is deceptive and insulting. All of the Oregon reps staff were polite (aside from Blumenauer's) when I asked if they had read the bill--including the 300 pages added at 3am (reminded me of Hillary's ad--how fitting!). I have read that 8 Republicans voted for this atrocity. I can't find their names. Please call them out and let us know who they are so we can call and vent our displeasure with their UNINFORMED vote. I read something else this afternoon that there was ONE copy of the 300 page addendum on the floor of the chamber. Utterly ridiculous! I'm outraged and all I see around me are lemmings who are ignorant at the EVIL being shoved down our throats! I've been "politically asleep" for a long time assuming my elected officials were doing the "right" thing. I have realized that is just not the case. Many (dare I say most) just DON'T CARE about us and are driving their own special agenda and the agendas of those who give them money. . .BIG money! I have woken up and will do what I can to wake up those around me.
Actually, irregular mom or Blewser the Oil Changer, klaytool or whatever, they don't care about you or your right-wing crap. I just knew when I heard the news about the bill passing that I wound need to stop by the Botox Bimbos Trashcan. You fools lost the election and elections have consequences. Get over it. To me, this is just a primer for the Obama healthcare bill. It will be sailing through, so get ready to whine.
Who is calling who a fool? Nice job at the name calling. Very 6th grade of you. You might want to remember Lew's post when this all goes through, and I agree with you--it probably will. You'll be just as hurt by this as everyone else. We'll see who is whining then. . .
Regular Lewser, so what was your 'lemming' comment, dolt? Looked like namecalling to me or were you asleep at the keyboard when you typed it. Where was your outrage at the atrocity of the Bush torturing civilians? I guess you were asleep then too. I hope the bill does pass so I can come back and listen to the nagging from you wing-nut nobodies that really don't matter to anyone.
Abel, your representative's minion was telling you what she wished was true instead of what was actually true. The calls against this monstrosity were 20 to 1 against and you can see how responsive the House was to the wishes of the American people. It also didn't pass "easy as ABC"... they managed to squeeze out a 7-person victory because 8 Republicans were too cowardly to serve the interests of the American people. Fear not, however... this means we get the House back in 2010 and might be able to put permanent brakes on His Imperial Majesty and the worshipful couriers.
Keith, it was not. Come on. Even you are smarter than that. The calls were solidily 5 to 1 by votes end.
This bill is important and Congress knows it. Americans know that Republicans are against any and all environmental protections and pretty much anything that reduces polution and global warming. No surprise there.
I wonder if the same people who voted "No" are the same ones that are receiving pac money from the Corporations and such opposed to the bill. Follow the Money where are you? We have a job for you.
I know better indeed, Abel. 20 to 1 against by vote's end. You seem to be operating under the curious illusion that elected officials with a messiah complex who love the ignorant greenies providing them a means to increase their power and the illusion of public support really care about what the little people think.
You seem to be forgetting something, Abel: without the 8 Republicans that were too cowardly to do good for the country in opposition to the screeching of environmentalists, the bill would have failed. The Republicans successfully stripped the Democrats of a 100% certain win and lost only because of their own turncoats. Further, Republicans are primarily opposed to ramming through jaw-droppingly ignorant government actions to create a solution for which no problem exists. Democrats, on the other hand, seem quite happy to invent solutions to solve imaginary problems irregardless of the decidedly non-imaginary harm that their "solutions" create.
Yes, they probably are. At the same time, the representatives that voted yes were probably receiving money from the wealthy environmentalist organizations and receiving phone calls from the White House promising them goodies if they ignored what was good for America in favor of what Obama wanted. Of course there's nothing sinister about that last action (presidents do that all the time when they want certain legislation) but it pokes a big hole in your imaginary world in which only the opposition has a financial incentive.
Hey Me, I can take back directing my lemming remark at Abel. I don't have to resort to name calling. You should try it sometime. I should have stated that Abel's remarks "sounded" like a perfect example of a lemming.
You stated, "Where was your outrage at the atrocity of the Bush torturing civilians?"
Please site examples of President Bush torturing civilians. Again, name calling and hateful attacks won't cut it as an explanation. I'm happy to engage is true debate with you if you can stick to the facts and be polite. Will that work for you?
I can't believe that you would want to come back and listen to the "nagging" of people you don't care about. I find it interesting that the only people that matter to you are the ones with whom you agree. That sure doesn't seem very open-minded, inclusive, or tolerant to me.

Too late!
Too late for you too, mini-iago.
You dullards hate so much you don't even realize how much you hurt yourselves with this one.
Too late, indeed...

I am curious to hear David Apell's commentary.

The Tighty RIghties have been asleep alot recently.
NO, mini-iago, we've just been letting you roll out your own rope.
The most ridculous thing about all this is that history shows clearly how it always fails, after bankrupting a country and enslaving its people.
That you don't wish to have any freedom or collect a paycheck and will accept the minimal pittance gubmint will hand you, doesn't bother me a bit.
That you help cause my grandsons to not have their freedom and liberty and also be enslaved by your communist gubmint, really ticks me off.
Don't be too shocked when all this blows up in your face.
Americans have a long history of fighting to secure their freedoms.
