Interesting article from the Seattle Times.
Interesting in that after hearing nothing but "doom and gloom" over the last 8 years, they now admit there actually were "job gains" under Bush?
But, what I find most intriguing is a sentence buried in the middle of the article.
"The nation now has the same number of jobs as in 2000 — but 12.5 million more workers."
Isn't that right about the estimated number of ILLEGAL immigrants in the country?
I'm sure more tax increases on the middle class with cure everything, right?
Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, it's all getting better, the stimulus is working!

ITS WORKING SO SLOW THAT alot of good people lost their jobs JUST before the Celebration of the birth of our country.....
Speaking of losing your job although by choice, many Alaskans are thankful tonight and saying good riddance while the rest of us are saying we did not know she was a quitter. Instead of having more time for her family she will have more time for her legal problems. First South Carolina, now Alaska. The Republican governors certainly know how to make news.
Its Nobama's Economy
PS: HAPPY 4th of July to most everyone.
Iago happy CUBA Day
I don't think it was much of a choice, Iago.I hope the wingnuts are bracing themselves. I predict that within a week or so we will know the REAL reason for this, and it will not be pretty. ALL the wingnut illusions of Ms. Sarah - their pride and joy - will be stripped bare and what will be exposed will be a complete fraud and phony. It is NOT going to be pretty.
The wingnuts will be crying and crying.
Yanno, from time to time, Democrats are actually useful. It's fortunate that the American people chose not to put a presidential ticket that included her into the White House--if the Democrats can drive her out of office with a barrage of spurious ethical charges when she's the governor of a sparsely-populated northern state, it stands to reason that they'd be able to take her down with the same false charges if she was a VP or (as some Republicans like to fantasize), POTUS. A politician weak enough to be taken down on the basis of make-believe should not be seriously considered for leadership in the Republican Party and especially not a nomination. It doesn't matter how legit her reasons were or what she said in explanation; Democrats successfully drove a relatively popular politician out of office in a state dominated by their political rivals without even needing to make claims that were true. We nearly stepped on a rotten plank; in 2012, we should make sure to go elsewhere.
ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!
I was talking with my wife this afternoon about how the lefty trolls were chomping at the bit waiting for a thread on Sarah Palin's announcement.
We figured it wouldn't be long before they tried to hijack another thread to spread what they think is good news.
As predicted, here they are.
Now, perhaps they would be kind enough to explain how her announcement will affect soaring unemployment under homey?
Keith, while we don't know for sure yet, this may be a bright move on to bigger and better things.
As she said, detractors spend nothing with all the frivolous charges, but she and the state have to spend hundreds of thousands defending them before every single one is dismissed.
One in particular shows no signs of stopping and as I have seen shyster attorneys try, when they don't have truth on their side, they bury the other side in legal expenses.
I do not see this as running away, but how can she properly perform her duties when the bulk of her time is wrapped up in dealing with senseless crap designed to destroy her and her family?
What the left hasn't realized is that this method of politics of personal destruction works two ways and will surely come back to bite them in their butts.
Just look at Helen Thomas recently.
The honeymoon is ending!
I think we will behearing a lot more from Sarah Palin in the future and it will be what the left doesn't want to hear. She doesn't have McPain holding her back any longer.
he he he, mini-me. I love watching insignificant little pissants when they are over confident.
You still haven't said anything about homey's failed stimulus plan and plunging us deeper and deeper into debt and throwing so many out of work.
But don't worry, by the time you get out of school, we'll be back in charge and working on making it better, even for you.
No worries Lewser, Obama will have outlawed conservatism by then. Isn't that what you postulated, you oilcan Nostradufus?
You Repubicans can't seem to keep your leaders out of scandals, how can you fools win anything. Welcome to 8 full years of social reform.
"No worries Lewser, Obama will have outlawed conservatism by then. "
Which BTW is what a despot dose.. try to eliminate dissent.
But no worries Me.. because that is something that can never happen unless your savior Obama tries to wipe out the 1st Amendment to the Constitution. I doubt that even HE will accomplish that.
I went to see Senator Merkley speak in Hermiston the other day.. your "social reform" has cracks already.. dedicated Democrats there were not too happy in his answers about Health Care or Cap and Trade policies.
But I will say this about our new Senator.. he was respectful.. let you speak your mind and did not insult those who spoke in opposition to his or the Presidents policies. How refreshing from the childish comments i see on the blogs.
Well Me, it is funny how a latin american country that Lew could not find on a map and its leader whom he had never heard of suddenly become all important. The parallels with Palin are stunning. Although Lew may have known where Alaska was, but I am not sure. Looks like Palin is being removed by an unacknowledged coup.
Oh and kmoo you give the Democrats too much credit for their capitalizing on Palin's self-destructive behavior. In battle it is always helpful if your opponents shoot themselves in the foot.
Me is talking to himself again from the Public Library.
PS: HOWS THE JOB SEARCH GOING ME. SIGNED UP FOR ANY OF THOSE "FEEL GOOD" SHOVEL READY aaaaaaaaaaaa JOBS YET????????
NOBAMA "FDR" SPEND SPEND SPEND REGULATE REGULATE REGULATE Keynesian economics doesn't work.
And still, the mini-crowd contributes nothing about how their diversion deals with record unemployment under their messiah.
He wasn't exactly her stumbling block, Lew; she tripped over her own feet, not the protruding limbs of political enemies. However, my point is that they were able to keep this sort of pressure on in a hostile environment (Alaska is just as vulnerable to going blue as Texas) and convince her to leave to try and get out of range.
I certainly hope she isn't going to show up in the future going on to "bigger and better" things associated with the Republican Party because there's only a few bigger and better things than a vice-presidential nomination and not one of them would represent Republicans taking a step in the right direction. Palin represents the same thing as McCain did--the wrong way to go to find victory.
That it is, Lew. One can only hope that she continues to loyally warm the bench when the time comes to select the party's leadership. One can also only hope that the party does not come to regard her as its future. McCain is many things but a stupid politician is not one of them; selecting, as your VP pick, someone who might well undermine your political stances (whether intentional or not) would be stupid.I have no doubt that a notoriously moderate Republican found enough agreement with Palin that he wanted her as his right-hand woman. Palin and McCain represent the way that the Republicans became a weak party helpless to beat the Democrats in political brawls; the future lays in a different direction.
Writing from the public library on the 4th of July. Looks like Klaytool the Lewser is sniffing the gasolina at the quiky lube.
By the way Klaytool the Lewser, I have a job with the Domestic Security Force tracking what you nutty righties write on the blogs. Now I better go and file my report.
Keith, McCain was a very poor pick for the GOP. His "Maverickness" all too often sided with the opposition in undermining conservatism.
He actually had very little support until he brought Sarah on board.
I have no idea who the selection will be in 2012, but if it is Romney, Obama will win again.
If Palin decides to jump back in teh fray, you might be surprised at the support she will receive.
After the vitriol thrown at her from "good old boy" element of the GOP and Democrats, I wouldn't blame her if she just went on the lecture circuit.
But, she did show that people as her, real and original, are what America needs, not more deeply imbedded Washington D.C. insiders.
mini-me, you are funny. To track what I say all you need do is click on the link to my blog.
I hope they aren't paying you much. They won't be getting their money's worth if it is over a nickle.
Then again, we all know what a prevaricator you are, too.
Yes, of course. He had very little support until he brought Palin on... unless you count the fact that he collected enough support to clearly win the nomination. That surely doesn't constitute very much support, does it?
I find it highly unlikely that Obama will have the political muscle come election day 2012 to defeat a strongly conservative candidate who gives off an aura of actually understanding how an economy works and can credibly promise not to botch it as badly as Obama has. A somewhat-conservative who concedes that pernicious leftist language tricks (like calling oil companies "Big Oil" as if they're some sort of monolithic malicious corporate conspiracy or something) has no power to defeat a clever orator who uses the language that the somewhat-conservative has conceded to him. Palin is a sure path towards an Obama win; at least Romney has the virtue of looking like a professional.
Keith, if you recall, he was almost out of the running early on. DailyKOS ran a post asking Democrats to vote for him in Open Primaries and even though near broke, he received an influx of funds from some unnamed source.
It was from that that Rush Limbaugh, Victoria and others ran their "Operation Chaos."
One thing I think you are missing is that conventional politics ceased last year. It's all a new game.
We don't know what will happen now as what we used to consider the norm was cast aside last year.
If conventional political wisdom was the norm, Obama, as junior Senator midway through his first term, would neither be president nor have even gotten on the ticket.
But, as I say, time will reveal what plans she has, if any.
She just may only be stumping for others or just ready to confront those who continue to spread false rumors about her and her family.
To me, Romney is too deeply embedded in the "Good old boy" network that we all continue to complain about.
If he really were all the popular or good, don't you think he would have gotten the nod instead of McPain?
Keith, Obama has not had time to botch the economy yet. Besides, he seems to be following the very trend which was put into place before he even took office.
Lew,
So do you think that the 12.5 million more workers are illegal immigrants? I am glad they are finding work.
How would the jobs available now, compare to the jobs available in 2000, when income is considered.
How many living wage jobs have gone overseas, while jobs that require (or qualify) the employee to subsidize their income with tax funded subsidies have increased?
I guess if one's own job is more at risk from the influx of illegal immigrants then from the shipping of our higher paying jobs overseas; the person would consider illegal immigration more of a problem.
What about legal immigrants taking jobs? There is plenty of that going on as well.
As for Palin, that was news, not some obscure fact, to be used in such a way as to boast what the author wants to believe.
I had no expectation of seeing someone start a thread on that subject.
But personally, I hope she goes into some area of leadership, independent of politics, and related to some cause she feels strongly about.
If she thinks that quitting her job, is not a detriment to her political resume, I question her logical thinking.
(I have concerns that if I just quit my own job, without first finding a new one, it will look negative on my resume.)
Conventional politics involved nominating a moderate and a moderate-conservative candidate for president and vice-president respectively. Happily, those days are gone; next time, we can nominate a conservative and hope he chooses one of his own.
Mainly, the reason that Romney was forced out of the running is that Huckabee stayed in long after it was apparent that he could serve no function but to deny the nomination to his conservative rival. Romney and Huckabee split the conservative base and McCain, no fool he, came in to pick up the moderates who didn't care about either candidate and who, while normally a minority, had enough power to nominate him. Huckabee might have been able to beat McCain in a straight fight; Romney would have had no trouble. But so long as both were in the race, McCain was going to win. And that's what happened, leading directly to the Republicans' inevitable defeat. Hillary could have beaten McCain on more solid grounds but Obama thrashed him by being the Democrats' "Great Communicator".
Minus Huckabee and McCain, I believe that Romney would have a real shot at the nomination and the best shot, of the current possible candidates, at taking Obama down.
Keith, we will continue to disagree on this. We'll just have to wait and see how it all pans out in 2012.
Eileen, you said, "Obama has not had time to botch the economy yet."
Increasing our debt more than in our entire history sure seems like "botching the economy" to me. Nationalizing banks and corporations and seeking a massive tax increase on the middle class through the cap and tax will surely finish it off.
"do you think that the 12.5 million more workers are illegal immigrants"
Spin city?
"I am glad they are finding work."
Wouldn't it be nice if it was American citizens, the ones expected to pay those exhorbitant taxes, were the ones finding work?
But please, explain why it is good for those in our country ILLEGALLY to be working and not American citizens?
LEGAL immigrants findingwork is entirely different as they are here LEGALLY and entitled to what benefits they receive, which is often less than those received by ILLEGAL immigrants.
Don't forget, I am sponsoring a LEGAL immigrant for citizenship. He is not legally entitled to receive benefits, that is why he needs an American sponsor.
But can you explain why, during these tough times, those who are here with no respect for our laws should receive priority over American citizens?
Can you also show m a country that reciprocates and is willing to grant Americans generous benefits if we enter and remain in their country ILLEGALLY?
As far as Sarah Palins motives and future plans, like the rest of us, you too will just have to wait.
But I do think it follhearty to count her out at this time.
But, I do giggle and snort at all those pundits who denigrated her saying she needed to remove herself from the governor's office and who now complain that she has.
"So do you think that the 12.5 million more workers are illegal immigrants? I am glad they are finding work."
Excuse me? Why are you glad illegals are finding work when the nation is hurting so badly? They are not even citizens. They don't pay taxes. They are a burden to our medicaid system. I need to hear the answer to this. I will be waiting. Wow, an illegal advocate. Why am I surprised?
So how do you feel about the 12 million Americans out of work?
By the way, the illegals all laugh at you liberals for how easy it is to get over on you.
Well, mini-disabeled, glad to see you would rather criminals work instead of citizens.
Me got a job with the domestic security force?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
What does that translate out to in turth, you're stumping for ACORN?
Abel, first Rove, now evenFox News
has started to turn on Sarah Palin. In the midst of a segment about the Alaska Governor's battle against "liberal" attacks, Liz Trotta went off-message.
Frankly, "the woman is inarticulate, undereducated," Trotta said, arguing that for once liberal criticism was "well-deserved."
"I think all the liberal stylists ... really have a case. She just begs for adjectives like flaky and wacky." When pressed, she added, "We're talking about somebody who, right from the get-go, has been a flashy person who gets into a lot of trouble and really has no credentials for any job."
Abel, even you should be able to comprehend that there's no such thing as a "job Americans won't do". That's pure propaganda, failing even the most basic test of credibility. People are willing to pick vegetables, empty septic tanks, go sailing through the middle of an Arctic storm to get lobsters... and you buy into that idiotic trip that there're jobs out there that only someone who's illegally here is willing to do? Only a knee-jerk compulsion to poke Lew in the eye explains your apparent eagerness to put forth the most imbicile arguments.
Funny thing about all the whining over Sarah Palin as Alaska's governor and the current employment situation in the country.
Alaska's unemployment rate is below teh national average and well below that of either Oregon or Washington.
Oh, did I mention Oregon and Washington have Democrat governors?
*sigh* Eileen, you're a nice enough sort but you seem amazingly willing to see what you believe rather than believe what you see. "Following a trend" is a stupid excuse for doing something you should know is harmful to the economy. Plus, he's clearly had more than enough time to do damage because we now have over a trillion more dollars of guaranteed debt, unemployment that shows no signs of abating despite Obama's ridiculous promise that if we spent like drunken sailors it wouldn't top 8%, the government seizing private corporations and sticking their nose into bankruptcy law to rip off private citizens, and the list goes on and on and on. Obama has proven that it takes no time at all to deal a crippling blow to an already shaky economic situation.
As for legal and illegal immigrants, that you even ask the question seems to indicate an unwillingness to distinguish between two extremely different things. Legal immigrants, as the term implies, come to the United States legally, carrying a green card and proper documentation, and obtaining specific permission to seek and hold employment, even to the point of starting their own businesses (I knew a gentleman from South Africa who did this). Illegal immigrants, on the other hand, did not obtain permission to come here and are stealing job because they have no legal right to be in a position to seek those jobs in the first place. It'd be like a car mechanic taking money and working as a neurosurgeon: the money is not legitimately his because he never had a legal right to be in the position to obtain it.
Eileen, you and your one bud, have all agreed you are on the side of illegals. No wonder Porkland has such a high suicide rate. Oregon has the some of the highest unecmployment rates in America.
May 2009
Oregon 12.4%
United States 9.4%
That was in May. Dems will be okay though. No conscience, everything goes, just get on the Goverment dole, right? Riiiiggggt. Ha ha
I guarantee the illegals all laugh at you dems. You give them stuff, all they have to do is agree to vote the way you want. What an arangement. Imagine if you will if the Republicans did that. Oh wait! You don't see the wrong, so if we did it, it would be okay too, right? RIGHT?
Now the Pig in Lipstick can travel around the country to impart her hillbilly folksy wisdom on all of us. Hee Haw! I am so looking forward to the right-wing nuts throwing their weight behind this worthless gem. The talking points and jokes are ready to roll. There are already jokes being told why Piggy can't finish the job. Maybe Blewser can report from his bunker at the quiky oil pit.
"I am glad they are finding work."
I agree, u∃∃l!∃. There are alot of jobs that need to be filled that Americans seem to be not willing to do. I ran into a guy over the weekend who was begging for money. He appeared able bodied. When I reiterated in jest to him the Republican talking points that there are jobs out there for him to do like picking vegetables, he scoffed saying that we have immigrants to do that work. He claimed he was a "Reagan Republican". I rest my case.
So how do you feel about the 12 million Americans out of work?
I feel okay about it. Maybe I would suggest to them that they should fill out some applications or register with Monster.com. Maybe they need some retraining. Apparently, "ME" got a job with the Domestic Security Force. Maybe those folks can try there.
I know one thing, scapegoating and bashing on immigrants sure ain't going to get them a job.
Alaska's Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski issued a surprisingly harsh statement late on Friday, ripping Gov. Sarah Palin's decision to leave office at the end of the month. "I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded," Murkowski wrote.
At least when Gov. Sanford went AWOL, he came back. Stay tuned for the new Republican Governors TV reality series.
Now now, Kitanis, It'sw Joe Biden, sitting at the left side of the messiah that says it's all working.
But, I know what you mean.
I wonder what Pelosi will say next about "jobs, jobs, jobs and jobs?"
Don't you find it a bit ironic athow they complained of no jobs during Bush's terms, but now admit they were all lost?
It wasn't libs asailing Citizen Palin today. Karl Rove and a whole host of Conservatives on the Sunday News circuit were lambasting her for quitting. That is what everyone will remember. Sarah Palin was a BIG quitter. What a weanie.
mini-me, spoken like a true communist.
Look to Honduras, son. It can happen here as well.
Oh, and all your Palin bashing and vitriol towards conservatives doesn't add a single job to the economy.
Funny thing about people. When their backs are against the wall, despots don't always fare very well.
Stimulus is working..
hmmm in Oregon.. maybe 70 to 200 people are going to get hired back on to a lumber outfit that is re-opening.. good news for them.
meanwhile Brigs & Stratton is closing down one of its plants in Wisconsin with a loss of 540 workers, Bath Iron Works is letting go 75 shipbuilders, and there is talk of letting go 150 workers from Boeing out there..
Yeah..... its working..
Keith, we will continue to disagree on this, so no sense on arguing over the point of McPain.
But, handing the state over to her Lt. Governor, who follows the same mindset as she does, keeps what she was doing going on and frees her up to whatever she plans, if anything.
With teh unprecedented and false attacks against her and her family, her children especially, it becomes very difficult to face attacks and properly run the state too.
With people like Linda Kellen Biegel and Shannyn Moore constantly on the attack, at little or no expense to them and considerable expense to Mrs Palin and the taxpayers of Alaska, the entire scenario begins to resemble the Cloward-Piven Strategy.
Atorneys are currently exploring legal recourse against at least one, since Alaska law provides relief under abuse of freedom of speech.
One thing I really like about Sarah Palin is that she is unconventional. What we look upon as a poor move that yesterday would have sunk her, just may work to her advantage today.
Time will tell, though.
Our thoughts might also all be for naught as she may have no desire to get back into the fray of the vitriolic hatemongering poltiics spewed out by the left today.
Its her call, the balls in her court.
