As we've been discussing on The Victoria Taft Show, what's left of the Occupy movement on the left coast plans to shut down west coast ports on December 12th.
They're doing this in support of the Longshoreman's union in Longview (see posts here, here, here, here, here, ) However, the union HQ says they're having none of it.
What you have going on may be a revelation to some but it's a confirmation of what others already knew: The "Occupy" movement has been bought, paid for and done in the furtherance of the unions. Please make a note of it because I'm really getting tired of saying it.
Daylight Disinfectant captured the (small) General Assembly meeting last night discussing the "take over" and "shut down" of the west coast ports. Could somebody please notify the feds?
Here's where the Occupiers say the Longshore union members will support the shut down even though it's illegal:
As noted in the post, ILWU won't join Occupy Oakland's attempts to shut down West Coast ports from the paper in Longview.
ReplyDeleteRobert McEllarth, president of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union said, "Only ILWU members or their elected representatives can authorize job actions on behalf of the union, and any decisions made by groups outside of the union's democratic process do not hold water, regardless of the intent."
Dan Coffman, president of ILWU's Longview Local 21 spoke in support of Occupy Oakland, but did not say local 21 would join the shut-down.

A bit off subject here. I just heard on the radio that the Occupy Mob blocked the intersections at 1st and Spring and 1st and Main last evening. And the police were powerless to much about it (surprise, surprise). It seems to me that the police should go in with water cannons to get that bunch of creeps to break up. And it might also have a positive effect, too. It would very likely be the first bath that most of them have had since this crap started some 6 or 8 weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteMcEllarth is too smart to tie his union's fortunes to a mob. Unlike the Occupy people, his union has money and will incur civil and criminal liability if there are problems..they have skin in the game. He'll let the Occupy deadenders take the heat and pepper spray.
On Occupy thursday here in Portland, there were a few ILWU signs in the crowd in the morning, but they knew better than to hang around for the main event that afternoon.
This will fizzle as well.
