In April, the Zupan family donated $450,000 to support the expansion of the Critical Care Unit at Legacy Emanuel, naming the John J. Zupan Emergency Department Waiting Room in his memory. The gift was an expression of profound gratitude for the exceptional care given to Zupan and his family by Legacy Emanuel trauma staff.Zupan received extensive trauma care from Legacy Emanuel trauma surgeons, Andrew Michaels, M.D., and Seth Izenberg, M.D., who kept him alive until family and close friends could arrive at the hospital. "The love, support and understanding shown during this very difficult time truly made a lasting impression on us," said Zupan's son, Michael. "My father lived his last moments free of suffering, at peace and surrounded by those he loved the most. For this we are eternally grateful. For this we want to give back."
