THIS POST IS NOT SAFE FOR WORK.
Every year I bring up the Portland Naked Bike ride and ask, "why don't the cops do something?" There IS a law against indecent exposure, ya know. In order for naked people to be told to put their clothes on, there has to be a showing that the nakedness is meant to titillate and that the nekkid person is doing it for some sort of sexual pleasure. I think I can speak with unqualified certainty that these kooks are getting their sexual jollies from shocking (even) Portlanders.
The Portland Police Commissioner, Sam Adams, has given the Naked Bike Ride a parade permit for a couple of years now. However that parade permit is for the night time event-- you know, when the kids are in bed.
But for the last couple of years a large contingent have begun riding in the day time for shock value and to get their jollies. They need to knock it off. It's not cute, it's not funny, it's disgusting. It's one thing to leave your dangling participle out there at night, it's quite another to subject others to it during the day.
Maybe it's just a precursor to the freak show that is the "Gay" Pride parade, but that's no excuse.(more on the gay pride idiocy in another post).
I don't like the Naked Bike Ride either nighttime nor daytime, but the cops should be directed to put a stop the day time event at the very least. Just because France, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and who knows who else does it doesn't mean we should.
This guy left his links out there to share, so I am. See if you don't agree, that it's about time there was a crack down--so to speak--on AT LEAST the DAYTIME Naked Bike Ride:

I have been wondering the same thing.. but you bring up the Mayor..
ReplyDeleteHe who does not enforce laws... enough said
Puts a new meaning to the term "Naked City". Ewwwwwwwww poor bicycle seat.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe it a violation of any law to ride a bicycle naked in the city of Portland. Being naked in and of itself is not against the law. It only becomes illegal when the naked person is only unclothed and acting in a manner that is clearly an attempt at sexual gratification. What's the problem Victoria, are you really that big of a prude? God didn't create junk and if you find it that offensive just to look at the Lord's handiwork then it seems to me that you are the one with the problem.
ReplyDeleteOh, Vern, those questions are answered in the post, but, of course, you ignored the post and just plunged headlong into a comment. Facts don't matter. Have fun!
DeleteHi vern,
ReplyDeleteI know you watch a lot of HBO and seem to be confusing it with real life, but what's the point of having laws to prevent hostile work environments and sexual harrasment in the workplace when you can't even walk down the street without it being in your face...literally. So, I guess vern has no problem with naked elementary school teachers or tri met bus drivers, et all as long as there is no attempt at sexual gratification. You might want to do some more thinking on this one.
God made poop too, but I don't think you want that all over theplace...right?
Is nude bicycling a green job? I aked the Mayor, but he seems to be irresponsive.
ReplyDeleteHi pacific,
ReplyDeleteMight be close, all that heavy breathing involved might increase your CO2 production. : )
I read the entire post Victoria and your "speculation" doesn't constitute fact, and I believe they were perfectly within their rights and that is probably why there were no arrests made or tickets passed out....because they would have all been easily defended in court.....Mike, you are just an idiot...I don't watch cable TV and the bike ride is not the same as going to work naked or teaching naked....kind of like telling me that if we allow gays to marry the next step is people wanting to marry animals or inanimate objects....absurd....so nice that there are adults posting on this site.
ReplyDeleteHi vern,
ReplyDeleteMy apologies for besmirching your reputation by accusing you of being a cable TV watcher. Your point to Victoria was that naked bike riding was perfectly lawful and those that opposed being forced to see it in public were"prudes". If public nudity is lawful, then why would you oppose nudity in other public places such as in schools or on Tri Met buses? If you think that's a silly question, how come we're trying to sort out whose going to use what bathroom?
The situation in your marriage example is absurd. If your argument is that if it is discriminatory to deny marriage to people that are gay, then tell me your argument against the inevitable claim that it is discriminatory to deny marriage to polygamists?
The setting and respecting of societal boundaries is an important issue.
