Multnomah County Democrats: Jon Stewart Has a Message for You

The other day I saw the Multnomah County Democrats tweet out that wild story about Mitt Romney not paying his taxes for ten years.
I said at the time, after laughing out loud:
The "story" which includes this phrase, "Now, obviously, this is a statement by one person so it's veracity has to be established," was the latest, laughably dishonest attempt to smear Romney about his taxes. He's released his records as Governor and now Presidential candidate.
It links to another blogger over at HuffPo which includes the apparent meat of the story: speculation from Harry Reid.
Of course it smacks of desperation and makes Harry Reid look even more ridiculous than usual.

Jim Geraghty at National Review begs for SOMEone to fact check Reid (here). And even Jon Stewart thinks Reid--and those who push this ridiculous story--look like idiots. In fact Stewart says, "You Harry Reid, are terrible."

  1. WHen you've lost Jon Stewart...you've lost the left on the issue. Bitter clingers like 'whacko' are the only ones hanging on...

  2. A second source, said to be "close to Senator [Harry] Reid," has told CNN's Dana Bash that Reid's original source for the claim that Mitt Romney "didn't pay any taxes for 10 years" exists, is a "Bain investor" and a "credible person." Dana Bash reported on this source, and the person's willingness to corroborate the allegation to which the Senate majority leader repeated on Thursday's airing of CNN's AC360.

  3. Like I wrote before, all Romney needs to do to refute Reid's claim is to release his tax records. That's it. If Reid's allegations are not true, the tax returns will provide enough political ammunition to beat Democrats about the head and shoulders from now until election day.

But if he doesn't refute the charge, it's an issue that will not go away, and will cost him a shot at winning. No modern presidential candidate failed to released his records, why Romney? What is in them that is worst than what he's enduring now?

Remember, after seeing 12 yrs of Mitt's tax records, McCain passed on him for V.P. and selected that noted intellectual, Sarah Palin. McCain thought Sarah freaking Palin was a better candidate than Mitt. What does that tell you?
