Petraeus Says We Did Not Tell Woods to Stand Down

Cancer on the presidency. Here and here.

  1. Victoria,

    "Cancer on the Presidency"?

I take issue with this characterization but the description is probably appropriate since all we have been hearing from this Presidency over the last four years is that they are a victim of external factors beyond their control.

However in Benghazi, the symptoms are evident:

Inadequate security at the embassy. As even Clinton suggested the President is responsible for setting worldwide embassy security personnel allocation levels at American embassies.

Competing and conflicting explanations and excuses from various government agencies over events and/or responsibility for this series of events leading to and following this tragedy. Obvious chaos and lack of communication between various Administration branches of government.

Ineffectual response of the Administration. State Dept says one thing, CIA another and the reaction force closest to the scene was apparently never given orders to respond.

The causes are hardly external. And the cure is simply changing the internal sources of dysfunction that caused the crisis in the first place. The prescription --- change the Administration that caused this massive internal malfunction!

  2. There are a lot of facts still developing, and of those that are now clear, the conservatives really have no room to blame the President for anything. If things change as more facts are uncovered, then use those facts, not made up ones that have been refuted.

Asking conservatives to have a fact based argument is like hunting cheese on the moon. Still, it would be nice.

  3. Hmmmm,

Lots of facts still developing...how do you have a fact based argument with no facts? Be nice if the President or Secretary of State provided some. The truth may very well that nothing could have been done after the Ambassador decided to travel to Benghazi despite his security concerns. But the stonewalling of the subject serves no one any real good. It only furher erodes the faith people have in their government.

Unless you have some facts? : )
