Victor Sharpe: Why Did Hillary "Man Up" and Take "Responsibility" for Benghazi Attack?

Photo: AP
The open secret of the bad blood between the Clintons, Hillary and Bill, and Michelle and Barack Obama is the stuff that espionage novelists dream of. So the following questions must be asked.

Why is Hillary apparently taking the fall for the Benghazi outrage and deaths of our diplomats and marines even as she hides out in Peru? What deal could have possibly been hatched between her and Obama? Is she being given a promise that if Obama gets re-elected, he will ditch Joe Biden and give her the Vice-Presidency? And has Bill whispered something else in Hillary's ear that makes the twists and turns of this appalling Libyan cover up even more Machiavellian?

And, of course, tonight's presidential debate will be mocked by the very partisan Crowley (she who claimed that a victory for Romney and Ryan will be national suicide) just as Ryan was ambushed by Martha--both Martha and Crowley being Democrat hacks of the worst kind.

Finally, how will Romney defeat the joint attack that Romney and Crowley will jointly launch?

  1. Hi Victoria,

If the President gets re elected, rest assured the First lady won't let Candy get within a time zone of the White House with the shape she is in. : )

Neither Hillary or the President are going to take responsibility for this. If they were serious, there would have already been prime time press conference where the circumstances would have been explained after the families had been informed in private.

The problem they have is that they have never had to face real failure. The President hailed the death of Osama Bin Laden and claimed Al Qaeda was on it's heels, well evidently they didn't get the memo. Four years of accomodation and apologzing to people for percieved slights was supposed to send a message that we meant them no harm while bombarding them with Hell Fire missiles. The President hoped he could isolate Al Qaeda from it's well of support. Well, this is the President's "Mission Accomplished" moment.

You can't separate the battle against Al Qaeda from the muslim states that support them. Who dithered about helping Libya, Tunisia, and now Syria? Al Qaeda or the President? Is it no wonder they respect people of similar cultural and religious values with real skin in the game as oposed to someone who leads from behind. A major policy change of course is needed, we'll see how flexible his policy will be.

A simple answer is that there is some sort of collusion, the even simpler answer is they underestimated Al Aqeda's resolve and resilience and are at a loss to deal with it.

  2. Seeing Candy Crowley correct Romney on his lies about Libya and having the audience of undecided voters applaud that was priceless. Romney looked ridiculous.

  3. Hi Rhubarb,

Good thing he had nothing to do with getting them killed. That crazy Romney would have defunded big bird for more money for embassy security. Maybe the President needs to hire Candy full time. : )

"Seeing Candy Crowley correct Romney on his lies about Libya and having the audience of undecided voters applaud that was priceless. Romney looked ridiculous."

Interesting point Sour Veggie, especially since Candy has been back tracking all day. Nice of her to interject herself into the debate. As a moderator one is suppose to be neutral. And now she admits her interjection was erroneous. She not only violated her contract with the Presidential Debate Commission, she also violated the the First Ethical Standard of being a Professional Journalist, as outlined by the Society of Professional Journalists. And she was wrong!!

The debate Monday night and likely the election is now Romneys to lose. Obama is boxed in on the LIbya question.

On one hand he is either an incompetent and indecisive as a President/leader or alternatively he embraces a faulty story line upon which he has built the very foundation for his primary Foreign policy initiative, Mid East policy.

He is incompetent and indecisive if he was being told by the State Dept that there was no spontaneous demonstration and this attack was well orchestrated by trained combatants within a day after the attack, yet through his UN Ambassador was perpetuating the story line about a demonstration due to rage about a sub standard American film created in Libya that resulted in the mob breech of the American compound and death of Americans. This story line persisted in the Mass Media for nearly two weeks after the event.

Since the State Dept is purported to have had a nearly live time feed on video of the events of that evening, had the President taken the time the next day to review the film he would have had the true answer within twenty four hours of authenticity of the story given the Press by his subordinates. Yet he parsed his words carefully in the Rose Garden thanks to his teleprompter suggesting terrorism in response to the 9-11 anniversary yet refraining from directly attributing the attack in Libya to terrorists. At the same time he seemingly apologized for the existence and vibrancy of America's practice of First Amendment guaranteed free speech rights. He could have ended the controversy on day two, instead preferring to practice his own political free speech rights on a two day campaign swing. He either failed to resolve the conflicting story line or wanted to perpetuate it for political gain.

Alternatively, Obama is guilty of embracing and defending a faulty story line construct which directly apologizes for Americans' audacity to practice free speech and has fostered an environment in which radical Islam has thrived. His policy has promoted criticism, destabilization and unrest in those Arab governments in the Mid East, who while not friendly to the US were not overtly hostile. This Administration has changed the landscape in the Mid East by promoting an environment that has fostered the emergence of radical Islam in formerly stable albeit not necessarily always overtly friendly governments. And all the while, this Administration itself has been overtly hostile to formerly strong Allies like Israel and Turkey.

  5. Sour Veggie cont

The results of his Foreign Policy have been devastating. The Iranian Green Revolution in Iran in 2009 was crushed with simply a whimper from this Administration over dissatisfaction of its brutal suppression of free speech and democratic organizers. Oh yes and the resulting embargo that Obama espouses has been so successful, has so many waivers it puts the Obamacare to shame, with Russia, China and nearly everyone else who actually trades with Iran exempt from penalty (which would actually be worthy of a real laugh from Joe the Joke Biden).

As a result of such as laughable policy over the past four years this Administration whose main International focus has been in Middle East has seen major setbacks/reversals in Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia, and others not to mention their alienation of formerly strong allies like Israel and Turkey.

Romney now simply needs to make this case about the failed showcase of Obama leadership on Foreign Policy on Monday night and without divine intervention by moderator Bob Schieffer or a contrived electrical blackout at the hands of the EPA and DOE, Romney should have an unobstructed path to victory.

  6. The only problem is that Romney knows even less than Ryan about foreign policy and we all know what Biden did to him.

  7. Iago,

Ah yes Iago, Biden did nothing but laugh despite despite the gravity of the debate and serious issues under discussion. Obviously, Biden had little to contribute at the debate and laughed off serious issues like unemployment and the Administration's Libya disaster and cover up, although his performance was likely better than that over the past four years. And given the yawning reaction of the polls following his performance, voters felt his performance wasn't worthy of another performance.

But perhaps Biden can refine his comedy routine and find a job as a stand up comedian in January after his current career ends. I'm sure he will find a short term gig somewhere.
